Email is the most useful tool in the modern business age. If you don’t believe this, try doing without it for a day.

The extent of this transition is best demonstrated when people return from a holiday. Most people do not return to a large in-tray of paper. They may, however, return to a very large number of emails. Working practices, however, have not yet adapted sufficiently to cope with this difference. Many people think, incorrectly, that email can be dealt with in a few minutes and that they do not have to spend time filing them because they are easy to find by date, subject or name of sender.
